Elevation Secondary College – Craigieburn, Victoria
The newly opened school, Elevation Secondary College, a core component of a $24M investment in the fast growth area of Craigieburn, is one of the many educational facilities constructed and upgraded as part of a $6B allocation for infrastructure projects in the Victoria. The Victorian School Building Authority and contracted parties chose to partner with Versalux as an experienced lighting company to be the sole luminaire supplier for eight new and refurbished major school projects. Versalux, having over 40 years’ experience in the project lighting industry, has earned its reputation as a leading lighting supplier across Australia and New Zealand, having applied our lighting design expertise and innovative luminaire solutions to a vast number of leading public and private schools across Australia.
In recent education projects in Victoria, Versalux have supplied over 5,000 interior light fixtures and 2,500 meters of INFINITI linear LED systems, whilst for the exteriors we have provided more than 100 exterior car park lights, poles, and perimeter lights to illuminate bike sheds, covered walkways, and bus shelters.
To achieve excellence in meeting Elevation Secondary College’s comprehensive brief, Versalux worked with Billard Leece Partnership and Irwin Electrical to formulate an innovative lighting solution. The inventive approach taken by our lighting design team included ensuring the solutions were based upon elite families within the required product groups.
The INFINITI luminaires are tastefully suspended across the corridors, hallways and opening plan learning centres in numerous and extensive continuous runs, as well as shorter modules incorporated into acoustic baffle arrays to stunning architectural effect. The contrasting colours, shapes and patterns of the interior spaces create a superb contrast with the featured black finish INFINITI luminaires for an elegant, coherent outcome. By shrewd utilisation of the many features of the INFINITI series, the solution meets the illumination needs of educators and students traveling between the entrance and exit points, whilst making a bold visual statement.
The INFINITI-based solution extends to the library of the Elevation Secondary School. It’s a new generation of modern, user-friendly resource-area designs perfectly matched to the needs of a new era of educational facilities. INFINITI optics are well suited to creating focused illumination without compromising the general ambiance, making it easy for students to locate printed materials across the portable shelving within a multi-functional, collaborative space. Multiple parallel INFINITI runs, mounted as spans under a sharply pitched ceiling, create a visual anchor in the space that helps to define the construction. Contrasted against the attractive homogenous surface finishes, the illumination emphasises the tones and textures of the architectural space without distraction, allowing open teaching areas to be interactive and ready for students to take advantage of the space for both collaborative and solo classroom arrangements via the movable seating.
The ASTI panels have been prudently chosen based on their crisp illumination and aesthetic appeal. Recessed into the classroom ceilings, they complement the modern characteristics of the educational facility. The ASTI luminaires deliver uniform LED lighting that ensures excellent visual comfort; the classroom design capably allows the light from the fixtures to complement the natural illumination for creating optimal conditions for task completion and general learning activities.
The administration building sees the venerable COMO BLACK downlights recessed across the ceilings of the spaces. Through an ingeniously engineered design, nearly 1000 variants of the COMO BLACK can be created from a simple array of options. The basic open faceted reflector version with a flat white trim was the visual approach selected, and the output setting was chosen to deliver the most efficient solution for the tasks. Achieving both uniformity of illumination on the task areas and vertical illumination for social interactions, the COMO BLACK blends in harmoniously as part of the minimalist colours of the architecture, providing a soft illumination with high visual comfort for a pleasant working environment. The administrative space with COMO BLACK luminaires allows staff to fulfil their tasks and communicate with students, faculty, and visitors from the beginning to the end of their working days.
GUARDIAN luminaires are surface mounted across the external eaves of the school buildings. These compact yet powerful LED floodlights produce vibrant illumination throughout the façade and are designed to achieve an effortless transition between exterior and interior spaces. The GUARDIAN floodlights maintain an excellent illuminated environment for a striking feature at night, as well as minimising glare to provide safe and secure movement across the school’s external areas.
