Brisbane International Airport – Brisbane, QLD
Brisbane International Airport services Brisbane and South East Queensland, the largest airport in the state of Queensland and third biggest in Australia. It is located approximately 12kms from the Brisbane city centre and contains two major terminals (Domestic and International).
A proposal was implemented to expand the Northern International Terminal of the Brisbane International Airport, investing $135M into the redevelopment of facilities to meet the demands of future growth. The advancements include four new aerobridges, upgrades, and enhancements to the operating terminals, precinct and airside works.
It is the largest aviation project of its kind in Australia, delivering the most efficient, well connected and preferred gateway airport to enter and exit Australia. It will provide long-term growth for the city of Brisbane and state of Queensland by creating new jobs and greater variety for travellers to explore and visit new destinations with a broader selection of airports available.
Working in close collaboration with Fredon, Meinhardt and Laing O’Rourke,Versalux provided a customised lighting design, supplying premium quality and performance fixtures whilst enabling a practical and sustainable application.
The solution needed to be carefully considered to best suit the needs of Brisbane International Airport to positively impact the millions of international and domestic visitors per year. The requirements were to keep travellers engaged, guide visitors and be a prominent landmark of hospitality and amenity throughout the facility, as well as ensuring that airport staff had their tasks and environments correctly illuminated for efficient and safe operation.
The new apron expansion areas have been upgraded for the Northern International Terminal. The TITAN LED luminaires were selected from the Versalux Industrial product range – a key performer and well-constructed choice, produced with a deep-drawn seamless marine grade 316 stainless steel body. The TITAN’s LED clear diffuser and translucent optic combine to provides excellent distribution in a well-sealed IP66 & IP67 unit, illuminating the apron areas underneath exterior passenger boarding docks and fixed links, and comfortably able to withstand the harsh and tropical conditions of Brisbane’s climate.
A new main switchboard and UPS system infrastructure were designed with the TITAN LED series, providing continuous and uninterrupted operation in all weather and emergency conditions.
For the support vehicle roadways within the Northern Terminal Expansion Area the STARLED series is utilised on 6m high TUBAL series poles. The excellent distribution of its LED optic was leveraged to create an optimised solution with minimal products and safe movement of traffic in the area.
The COMO BLACK 2 is featured prominently throughout the general spaces and boarding counters of the Brisbane International Airport. The premium performance of the COMO BLACK series is enabled by its precision designed multi-facet and clever heat-sink housing, creating a beneficial experience for travellers arriving and departing through gates and terminals – the correct lighting aids travellers, to keep them concentrating, engaged and making the entire process of travel stress-free.
