St. Clair Village, is a neighbourhood shopping centre located in the new housing estate of St Clair on the site of the former Cheltenham Racecourse on Cheltenham Road. The centre is anchored by a Coles Supermarket with some 15 specialty shops along with the state support offices for Coles and Wesfarmers located above with their own rooftop parking.

Working in conjunction with ISPT, JLL and the managing consultant Nilsen Networks Pty Ltd, Versalux provided the retrofit solution, keeping the safety of end users in mind. Earlier the facility was using 28 numbers of 150W Metal Halide luminaires. The main challenge was to achieve superior illumination meeting Australian standards as well as reducing the number of fittings.

75W SMART48 with FW optics were used on existing poles to achieve the required general illumination while achieving improved vertical illuminance for the cameras. A programmable integral LED driver was used for the fittings, that delivers a unique level of flexibility with a large number of features which can be customized to perfectly match the project requirements. At the end, only 18 numbers of SMART fittings were used. The optic is full cut-off, eliminating upward lighting component and reducing pollution to the neighbouring residential areas. SMART, being a very effective luminaire, not only achieved the technical requirements, did so with a reduced quantity of fittings, each with a lower wattage, reducing energy consumption and greenhouse emission. The massive difference between the before and after photos make the facility management most pleased and processes have been put into place to review other facilities.
