Foodland – Mount Barker, South Australia
Foodland is one of Australia’s biggest supermarket brands, with 120 shops across South Australia and the Northern Territory. The Mount Barker Foodland grocery store is located in the Mount Barker Village Shopping Centre, serving the local community of Adelaide Hills, 33 kilometres from the Adelaide City Centre. It is an independent supermarket that prides itself on offering clients a full range of local products with a concentrated attitude to personalised service.
Foodland worked in conjunction with DBR Projects and Versalux to complete a major refurbishment for their Mount Barker store. Having already experienced resounding success at their Happy Valley store, Foodland again chose to utilise Versalux’ services, their objective to partner with a lighting company with proven skills and experience. Versalux met the requirements necessary for Foodland’s project, delivering high quality lighting systems using first-class products. The retail lighting solution would transform the look and feel of the grocery store, to create a positive ambience for customers to shop in, and to draw attention to their staged merchandise while preserving a coherent brand image as a contemporary supermarket retailer.
The rectilinear AXIUM extruded luminaire system are surface mounted onto the store ceilings, their selection based on their strong performance and minimalistic design. The continuous rows of AXIUM illuminate each aisle, producing vertical illumination to draw attention to each shelf’s products. The combination of the FC Frosted Curved optic in the surface mounted configuration provides a practical level of illumination on the light-coloured ceiling to provide high visual comfort. The AXIUM uniform and highly effective illumination creates a vibrant atmosphere and permits customers to easily distinguish branded product packages.
For the Perishables department, the versatile and compact PARMA LED spotlights are rebated inside the exposed wooden beams with VERSATRAC track lighting systems to integrate with the retail architecture. The PARMA series has wide arcs of rotation and tilt to produce high levels of direct illumination across the fruit and vegetable hall. The 3000K warm white colour temperature is perfect to obtain a crisp and comfortable atmosphere that is seen as natural and fresh in appearance. Shoppers can make purchasing decisions in a comfortable and pleasing environment, highlighting the natural features of food to encourage the customers to take a closer look at the products on offer.
PARMA spotlights are also used in the Bakery department, their highly efficient multi-faceted reflector delivers high illumination levels with a warm white 3000k colour temperature to emphasise the warm, golden colours of the baked goods. The TORINO corner-profile extruded aluminium LED strip luminaires complement the PARMA spotlights with accent illumination for an enhanced architectural effect.
In the Deli department, the BRESCIA series of recessed ‘snorkel’-action LED downlights were chosen based on their low-profile spotlighting capability. The BRESCIA was selected with a narrow-focused beam spread to effectively highlight the displays in order to create an appetising and rich experience for the consumers, with high colour rendition LEDs to that bring out the natural colours of smallgoods. The versatility of the BRESCIA luminaires, with its highly adjustable action, allows staff to modify the layout of the deli displays to highlight unique promotional offerings. TORINO extruded aluminium LED strips were used to complement the BRESCIA and accentuate the architectural design of the store fit out.
