No. 36 Squadron – Boeing C-17A Globemaster Aircraft, Royal Australian Air Force – Amberley, Queensland
The No. 36 Squadron is a Royal Australian Air Force transport squadron within the military airbase in Queensland. It is situated in the suburb of Amberley, 50 kilometres from the centre of Brisbane. Eight planes and a training system at the RAAF airbase enable Australia to send troops, supplies, heavy equipment, and helicopters anywhere in the world quickly. It serves as the foundation for the Australian Defence Force’s overseas operations in terms of logistics.
At the RAAF Base Amberley a dedicated maintenance hangar, the No. 36 Squadron, was purpose built to replace numerous outdated facilities and serve as a logistics warehouse and maintenance facility with 5,000m² of floor space to house the Boeing C-17A Globemaster Aircraft. Versalux provided a custom lighting design consisting of premium quality fixtures for the infrastructure project to create a practical solution in collaboration with Q Electrical and Norman Disney & Young Brisbane (A Tetra Tech Company).
High-performance industrial luminaires were needed for the purpose built facility. Versalux is a specialist in industrial luminaires and has been providing a wide range of industrial lighting solutions for decades to the market, including warehouses, distribution centres, and logistics facilities. Versalux takes pride in having contributed to many of the biggest industrial lighting projects in Australia. The exclusive lighting fixture installed in the facility was the powerful MAXI CAPRI series from Versalux’s high bay product range which produces excellent visual comfort, high performance, and continuous illumination. The Australian Air Force’s pilots and support staff will benefit from its superior and effective optical system that increases uniformity and uses a low-glare design to reduce shadowing. The MAXI CAPRI luminaires are suspended from the high ceilings and placed strategically along the aisles to provide full coverage of the facility. Versalux specially designed and engineered the MAXI CAPRI to work favourably with extra high output LEDs in industrial spaces. Its superb output caters to the needs of Air Force staff of carrying out maintenance on the Boeing C-17A Globemaster Aircraft performed in a safe and secure environment for all conditions.
Testimonial by Gavin Bartley Associate Section Manager Norman Disney and Young Brisbane (A Tetra Tech Company):
“The Versalux MAXI CAPRI fittings are extensively specified by the majority of our electrical team in Brisbane. We have had great success using these fittings over the past 5 years and would have no hesitation recommending them for use on other projects.
The multiple mounting options, wide beam angles, low glare, and high lumen outputs make the fittings a versatile and attractive option for projects where both high lighting lux levels (both horizontal and vertical) and aesthetics are key requirements for the outcome.
As it stands, they are our ‘go-to’ fitting for high bay lighting installations through warehouses, industrial, indoor sporting, and aviation hangars”.
