PC2 Biofoundry Research Laboratories, Macquarie University – Macquarie Park, NSW
Macquarie University is a public research university at Macquarie Park, New South Wales, on Sydney’s North Shore. It recently obtained a $2.5 million government grant to fund and extend its synthetic biology research, solidifying its position as the field’s global leader with the construction of new PC2 laboratories covering approximately 550sq.m on their Sydney campus.
For the new project, MCA Architects, Richard Crookes Constructions Interiors, and Versalux collaborated; Versalux was tasked by Macquarie University to create lighting designs and implement systems that would have a positive impact on employees’ activities in the new facility, with the goal of providing a holistic and positive working environment that promotes health and wellbeing in the workplace. The new laboratories design was blended with the latest scientific technology equipment available.
Macquarie University selected our CLINIC series for their new laboratories, a commercial linear fixture that boasts a combination of excellent performance, glare control, anti-microbial treatment, and durability for a low cost of ownership long term.
The CLINIC series fixtures were installed in a layout designed to provide multi-angle illumination within the laboratories, recessed and strategically positioned to suit the layout of the new bio foundry research rooms and providing the perfect solution for low-glare horizontal and vertical illumination.
The CLINIC are built in the laboratories for ideal lighting for scholars and scientific experts to communicate and collaborate in a secure setting with uniform panels designed to reduce glare. During the day, the CLINIC luminaires complement the natural light entering the area through its large glass windows, and at night they proficiently meet the space’s task illumination requirements on their own.
CLINIC luminaires are IP65 rated from the underside, ensuring they can withstand dust and water from the space below while ensuring simple, fast, and efficient cleaning and maintenance. One of the CLINIC’s main benefits is its antimicrobial resistance, which prevents bacteria and fungi from growing. Making them ideal for use as luminaires in medical and educational settings.
