St Hilda’s is a leading residential college at the prestigious University of Melbourne, situated in the inner northern suburbs of Parkville, Victoria. St Hilda’s offers accommodation, academic learning, and pastoral support for its students. St Hilda’s objective was to rejuvenate their exterior landscape by transforming the outdoor environment into a vibrant exterior lighting solution taking full advantage of all their outdoor amenities the facility has to offer.

Versalux collaborated closely with John Patrick Landscape Architects from the planning stages through to the implementation of high quality lighting systems for St Hilda’s College. The aim of the illumination was to highlight all aspects of the exterior architectural elements whilst offering a functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space that connects all areas of the urban landscape from the garden, courtyard and movement areas into one.

For a primary fixture in the main courtyard St Hilda’s were looking for a durable and dependable bollard. As the best fit for purpose luminaire from Versalux’ wide exterior product range, they chose to select the versatile LEO ON POST series. Surface mounted, made of high quality aluminium, and equipped with an IP65 rating to withstand the toughest weather conditions the LEO ON POST bollards are perfectly positioned along the courtyard pathways, blending into the exterior’s surroundings effortlessly amongst the lush green landscape. Selected with the 70mm post option for an overall height under 300mm, the LEO ON POST bollards remain close to the ground to accent the junction points between the plant beds, benches and building entrances and exits with high levels of vertical and horizontal illumination.

The NABOO series is an in-ground LED luminaire used primarily for exterior environments. NABOO in-ground luminaires are flush mounted in the courtyard, made of aluminium & stainless steel, and feature an exceptionally durable IP67 IK10 rating that withstands harsh weather conditions. NABOO features both drive-over and walk-over capabilities, ensuring trouble-free durability in spite of their location in the foot-traffic areas. Selected with size, output, and symmetrical light distribution designed for optimal night-time illumination of the space’s historic flora. The NABOO in-ground LED luminaires works in tandem with the LEO ON POST bollards and TORINO-X LED strips to deliver an impressive lighting concept that brings the landscaped zones to life whilst accentuating the geometry of the façade in an attractive atmosphere that invites students to gather around the seating area benches as a central meeting facility for a memorable experience.

The TORINO-X is a high quality, IP67, flexible strip lighting system selected at St Hilda’s to provide ample eye-catching illumination from hidden mounting locations. The TORINO-X can accommodate a wide range of exterior applications with its flexible design and straightforward installation. TORINO-X is very compact yet offers a wide lighting distribution with high colour rendition to transform any environment. The TORINO-X provides St Hilda’s soft illumination as the ultimate effect with its minimalistic lines a focal point to highlight the architecture decorative details and 360 degree view to become a significant component to the overall appeal of the urban landscape with its breathtaking illumination throughout the night.
