Reclaim the night

For millions of years, night has been defined by darkness, moonlight, and stars. Today, artificial lighting has changed that balance. While outdoor lighting is essential for safety and usability, light at night needs to be carefully managed to avoid unnecessary environmental impact.

Night-sensitive lighting is about using light only when and where it’s needed. That way light respects both people and the natural world. By adapting light levels and colour throughout the night, we can protect ecosystems without compromising visibility or security.

Sky glow

Sky glow is the brightening of the night sky caused by artificial light reflecting and scattering in the atmosphere. It is created by the combined effect of every light source in a space, particularly those emitting blue-rich light.

Short-wavelength blue light scatters more easily than warmer tones, making it a major contributor to sky glow. This reduces night-time visibility, obscures stars, and alters natural day–night cues. Minimising sky glow starts with thoughtful lighting design: controlled light placement, no upward light, and reducing unnecessary blue light after dark.

Protecting the unseen

Many animals and plants rely on darkness to regulate feeding, movement, growth, and reproduction. Most wildlife is especially sensitive to ultraviolet, violet, and blue light, more so than humans.

At night, blue-rich lighting can attract insects, disrupt navigation for birds and bats, and interfere with feeding patterns across ecosystems. Plants are also affected, as extended exposure to artificial light can alter growth cycles by mimicking longer daylight hours.

Reducing blue light at night helps restore natural rhythms, supporting healthier ecosystems while still providing functional illumination for people.

Engineered for the Night

Our fixtures are designed to provide safety and security without contributing to light pollution

Fully Shielded

100% of the light is directed downward and is dark sky compliant. Zero upward light to keep the stars clear.

Warm Amber Glow

Using PC Amber colour temperature to eliminate harsh bllue light, mimicking natural firelight.

Our Technology In Action

Spectral Transitioning is a smarter approach to outdoor lighting, one that adapts to time, activity, and environmental needs.

Using a single luminaire, the system smoothly transitions between warm amber light and standard white light. Amber light is used when full visibility isn’t required, reducing blue light, sky glow, and ecological disruption. When people are present, the light can automatically shift to white for clarity, safety, and security.

Through intelligent controls such as sensors and scheduling, Spectral Transitioning delivers light for people and the environment. Providing visibility when needed, and darkness when possible.

Developed by Versalux and available in the Equinox and Electra range, this technology allows outdoor spaces to remain safe, usable, and environmentally responsible throughout the night.
